Steam market repricing and listing automation
Repricing and listing automation helps keep Steam Market sell listings close to your strategy without manually checking every item. SteamMarketRunner can calculate a sell price, list available inventory, accept confirmations, and later remove old or undercut listings so they are relisted at a fresh price.
SteamMarketRunner can place and maintain listings you configure, but it cannot guarantee that an item sells, sells quickly, or sells at a profit. SteamMarketRunner is independent and not affiliated with Valve or Steam; all live actions are performed on your own Steam account and remain your responsibility.
Listing workflow
A sell cycle follows a conservative path:
- The item must be tracked and have SELL enabled.
- The runner checks inventory and skips copies under Steam market hold.
- A sell price is calculated from your selected algorithm and profit settings.
- The runner submits a Steam sell listing at exactly that strategy price, using the seller-received net amount (no automatic undercut of the lowest listing).
- The confirmation step accepts mobile confirmations when Steam requires them.
For the full cycle order, see How trading works.
Net price versus gross price
Steam sell listing APIs use the seller-received net amount. Buyers see a higher gross price after Steam fees.
This distinction matters for automation: sending the gross amount as the listing price would make the buyer-paid price too high and reduce the chance of sale. SteamMarketRunner calculates both values, but submits the net price to Steam.
See Trading settings for the fee and algorithm flow.
Repricing behavior
Listings are not repriced automatically at the moment: the Reprice deviation % setting (repriceDeviationPercent) is saved but has no effect, and an active listing stays at the price it was listed at.
To keep listings from sitting at an outdated price, use Remove from sale after (days) (removeFromSaleDays). The hourly maintenance (while trading is started) then:
- removes listings older than that age;
- the item returns to inventory after Steam processes the removal;
- the next sell analysis lists it again at the fresh strategy price.
The Remove old sell listings button on the Inventory & Orders tab does the same on demand. SteamMarketRunner intentionally does not cancel and immediately relist the same asset in one inline burst. Waiting for the next sell cycle avoids racing Steam inventory state.
Competitors and undercutting
Listings are placed at the strategy price; the runner does not automatically undercut the current lowest listing. To react to competitors, enable Auto-undercut guard: the hourly maintenance removes your listing when a competitor lists below it, and the next sell cycle relists the item at the (fresh) strategy price. Use this carefully:
- lower strategy prices can sell faster but reduce margin;
- frequent remove/relist cycles create churn and extra Steam requests;
- a stale or missing market snapshot should be treated as a reason to wait, not to guess.
Listing all inventory
The List all action schedules one throttled sell pass for suitable items. It still respects market holds, item flags, safety gates, platform caps, and Steam responses.
Use it for controlled bulk listing, not as a substitute for reviewing strategy settings. For everyday operation, the normal runner tick is safer and easier to audit.
Common skip reasons
| Skip reason | What to check |
|---|---|
| All copies are under market hold | Inventory holds troubleshooting |
| No marketable asset | Sync inventory and wait for held copies to unlock |
| Already listed | Check active Steam listings and dashboard state |
| Sell price not calculated | Wait for price snapshots or review algorithm settings |
| Sticker/float guard blocked | Review CS2 guard thresholds in the account's System tab → Account settings (see Trading settings) |
Next step
Review Trading settings and enable old-listing removal or the auto-undercut guard only after you understand the current sell algorithm, profit target, and maintenance cadence.
